Background

From 22 January to 4 March 2024, the River Thames Scheme held a statutory consultation on the latest designs and proposals, and we received over 2,500 responses. All materials from the statutory consultation are available on the consultation webpage. Since then, we've been carefully considering all the feedback while continuing to develop the Scheme ahead of submitting our Development Consent Order (DCO) in 2025.

In the interim we are pleased to share a Statutory Consultation Summary Report which presents the feedback received from the closed questions and summarises the responses to the open questions.

Ferris Meadow Lake proposals

As part of statutory consultation, we consulted on our developing proposals for the Scheme's design in relation to Ferris Meadow Lake, presenting seven potential options in the consultation materials. We set out that we would be continuing to appraise the Spelthorne channel section design proposals at Ferris Meadow Lake and would consider consultation feedback.

Each of the seven options presented at statutory consultation, in addition to two further options included as a result of feedback received during consultation, was appraised against a number of technical, environmental, policy and cost factors, and adherence to the Scheme's environmental design principles.

Taking these matters into account, the outcome is that Option 1, as shown at statutory consultation, has been identified as the preferred option to be submitted as part of the Scheme's application for development consent.

We are now consulting to seek feedback on how we can develop the Scheme's design at Ferris Meadow Lake and on the Ferris Meadow Lake Options Appraisal Report.

Supplementary consultation materials

To help you provide informed feedback, we've made available a range of supporting documents that were used to determine why Option 1 is the preferred design option. These include:

Share your feedback

Please only use the following official response channels. We cannot guarantee that responses sent via any other channel will be included in our analysis.

We value your feedback, and it will play an important role in refining and shaping the scheme. To ensure your responses are considered in the scheme's development, kindly submit them by the deadline - 11.59pm on 7 October 2024.

Whilst it would help us get a complete picture of your views if you answered all the questions, you are not required to do so. If particular questions, or sets of questions, are of interest to you, please answer those in the feedback form.

  • Online: The easiest way is to complete the feedback form online through CitizenSpace. You can save your responses and return at your convenience. On average, the feedback form could take 5 minutes to answer all questions.
  • By Post: Fill out a paper copy of the feedback form and mail it to us using our Freepost address: Freepost River Thames Scheme Supplementary Consultation. Paper copies are available at our events or upon request via post or email.
  • By Email: If you're unable to complete the feedback form, email us at enquiries@riverthamesscheme.org.uk. Clearly state in the email that it is your RTS consultation feedback for it to be considered.

What happens to my feedback following supplementary consultation?

After the consultation period ends, we will carefully review all the feedback received. This feedback will be used to produce a consultation report which will summarise the findings. The report will include information on how we have had regard to feedback received at statutory consultation and at this supplementary consultation.

The report will be submitted as part of our Development Consent Order (DCO) application, which we expect to submit in 2025 to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs via the Planning Inspectorate. Once submitted, the report will be made publicly available.
