Background
From 22 January to 4 March 2024, the River Thames Scheme held a statutory consultation on the latest designs and proposals, and we received over 2,500 responses. All materials from the statutory consultation are available on the consultation webpage. Since then, we've been carefully considering all the feedback while continuing to develop the Scheme ahead of submitting our Development Consent Order (DCO) in 2025.
In the interim we are pleased to share a Statutory Consultation Summary Report which presents the feedback received from the closed questions and summarises the responses to the open questions.
Ferris Meadow Lake proposals
As part of statutory consultation, we consulted on our developing proposals for the Scheme's design in relation to Ferris Meadow Lake, presenting seven potential options in the consultation materials. We set out that we would be continuing to appraise the Spelthorne channel section design proposals at Ferris Meadow Lake and would consider consultation feedback.
Each of the seven options presented at statutory consultation, in addition to two further options included as a result of feedback received during consultation, was appraised against a number of technical, environmental, policy and cost factors, and adherence to the Scheme's environmental design principles.
Our preferred option
Taking these matters into account, the outcome is that Option 1, as shown at statutory consultation, has been identified as the preferred option to be submitted as part of the Scheme's application for development consent.
We are now consulting to seek feedback on how we can develop the Scheme's design at Ferris Meadow Lake and on the Ferris Meadow Lake Options Appraisal Report.

What happens to my feedback following supplementary consultation?
After the consultation period ends, we will carefully review all the feedback received. This feedback will be used to produce a consultation report which will summarise the findings. The report will include information on how we have had regard to feedback received at statutory consultation and at this supplementary consultation.
The report will be submitted as part of our Development Consent Order (DCO) application, which we expect to submit in 2025 to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs via the Planning Inspectorate. Once submitted, the report will be made publicly available.
