RTS features at flood resilience conference

Jeanne Capey, Project Director for the River Thames Scheme (RTS), and Environment Director of Surrey County Council, Carolyn McKenzie recently shared the vision and goals of the scheme with engineers and other industry specialists at the NCE Flood Resilience 2023 conference.

A woman standing at a podium presenting to a large audience sat around tables. Screen projector with 'River Thames Scheme' displayed.

Jeanne began by talking about the aims of the RTS, its current progress and the way in which it brings together different suppliers, before using our latest animation to explain more about how the proposed channel will work.

Carolyn then went into more detail about the green aspects of the scheme and how the RTS will be improving access to quality green spaces, creating opportunities for active transport and enhancing biodiversity.

The presentation was well received and followed by a question-and-answer session. The audience raised a wide range of interesting topics, including how we learn from other flood schemes and how the Environment Agency (EA) and Surrey County Council are working together to achieve the same ambition.

NCE Flood Resilience is a high-profile annual conference that attracts experts from the EA, local authorities and water companies as well as engineers and contractors. It explores topics relevant to flooding, such as latest policies and emerging technologies.
