River Thames Scheme statutory consultation comes to a close

Thank you to all of you that attended one of our statutory consultation in person or virtual events and also to the hundreds of you who took the time to provide your feedback and views by completing the online feedback form, posting a paper feedback form or sending us an email.

The River Thames Scheme (RTS) statutory consultation ran for six weeks, from 22 January 2024 to 4 March 2024. During this time, the RTS were out consulting the public on our latest designs and asking for feedback on our proposals for the project, all of which had evolved significantly from the feedback received during our 2022 consultation and this last year of engagement events with many stakeholders. We were impressed with the level of knowledge and detail people had on the scheme and the probing and informed questions asked as a result.

During January and February 2024, we held eleven in-person consultation events which were all located along the scheme route, and five virtual events. We also offered a pre-recorded option of our virtual presentation for those unable to attend any of the live events.

The RTS teams spoke to over three thousand people, with our specialist and technical experts on hand to answer any questions raised by the public. It was a busy but extremely productive couple of months.

All the feedback we received, is now being carefully considered by the landscape architects, civil engineers, environmental scientists, water modelling experts and others working on the River Thames Scheme.

All feedback will be used to produce a consultation report which will summarise the findings. This report will also include information on how we have considered feedback and how this has informed any changes to our proposals or refinements on the scheme.

The report will be submitted as part of our Development Consent Order (DCO) application to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs via the Planning Inspectorate ('PINS') and will be available to the public following submission of the application. We are likely to be submitting our DCO application in mid-2025.
