Explore the new River Thames Scheme walking trails
The River Thames Scheme (RTS) is launching two walking trails near the Desborough Cut. The Desborough Island Loop and the Broad Water Loop offer exciting opportunities for the local communities to explore the outdoors, observe local wildlife, and learn about the history of this area.
More than just scenic walks, these trails are designed to educate visitors about the initiatives the River Thames Scheme is implementing in the area, such as habitat creation and new areas for wildlife conservation.
Key features of the walking trail map
- Scrub and woodland: providing shelter and food for birds and insects, these areas are vital for supporting biodiversity.
- Meadow and grassland: creating a rich environment for wildflowers and pollinators like bees and butterflies, these areas are crucial for maintaining ecological balance.
- Reedbed and pond: enhancing aquatic habitats for fish, amphibians and birds, these features attract a variety of wildlife and contribute to a thriving ecosystem.
The newly released walking trail map shows the River Thames Scheme's dedication to celebrating the area's natural and historical heritage, by providing information on Walton Bridge, the Desborough Cut and Island, and some Grade II Listed Buildings. By highlighting key areas along the Desborough Cut, the map guides visitors through scenic trails while highlighting the schemes ongoing environmental work aimed at enhancing biodiversity.
