The River Thames Scheme statutory consultation took place between 22 January 2024 and 4 March 2024.
Thank you to all of you who attended a consultation event and also to the hundreds of you who took the time to provide feedback. We are now carefully analysing all the feedback received and will update this website in due course.
Preliminary Environmental Information Report (PEIR)
The Preliminary Environmental Information Report (PEIR) documents our preliminary assessment of likely significant environmental effects of the River Thames Scheme (RTS).
Our PEIR provides the information reasonably required for consultees, including the public, to understand the likely significant effects of the project on the environment, as understood at this stage. It forms a key consultation tool for the Development Consent Order (DCO) statutory consultation by providing an update on the ongoing Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), consultation and design of the RTS. Our PEIR:
- Reviews relevant legislation, policy and guidance;
- Updates effects scoped into the EIA following the Planning Inspectorate (PINS) Scoping Opinion plus changes to design and footprint of the project;
- Reviews and updates the baseline (the environmental starting point), and how this is expected to change (the future baseline);
- Reviews the area in which each topic has the potential to experience likely significant effects (the study area);
- Updates or clarifies proposed assessment methods;
- Provides preliminary assessment of the likely significance of scoped in environmental effects of the RTS; and
- Identifies potential mitigation measures to avoid, reduce or compensate for environmental effects
The RTS have created an online version of the document, called the Digital PEIR.
The Digital PEIR website provides a non-technical presentation of the key findings in our PEIR. The website is a good starting point for understanding the preliminary assessment of likely significant environmental impacts of the RTS. You can also use the digital PEIR to navigate through the PEIR documentation. The digital PEIR presents the key findings using interactive maps, this can help you understand how the RTS will affect your area.
The PEIR comprises a number of chapters, figures and appendices, and is available as a non-technical summary. These documents can all be found in the RTS document library.
